About Us

The school is open to boys of all abilities from Years 7 to 11. Girls are welcome in the Sixth Form as are other mature students. We have around 940 students, of which 130 are in the Sixth Form.

The school recently became a Sports College also specialising in Business Studies.

Aims

To provide a curriculum and school environment which will offer equal opportunities to enable our students to realise their full potential

To provide a caring and supportive community in which all students feel a sense of belonging

To help students become mature, responsible, thoughtful, well-adjusted young people with a sense of self respect and confidence

To help students appreciate different ethnic groups and cultures both within and outside the school

To foster good relationships between staff, students, governors, parents and the community

To equip students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to:

maximise the effective use of their abilities and interests

    make informed and appropriate decisions

    relate successfully to others

provide leadership and set an example to others so that they are ready to take their place in society as responsible, caring and well-informed citizens.

To raise the level of achievement of students by recognising the four aspects of achievement:

the capacity to express oneself in a written form

    the capacity to apply knowledge

the capacity to use personal and social skills successfully, through communication, co-operation, initiative, self-reliance, the ability to work alone and leadership

the capacity to develop self-motivation and commitment, willingness to accept failure without destructive consequences, readiness to persevere and have the self-confidence to learn in spite of the difficulty of the task.

To raise the profile of post-16 provision in the school, so that there is an expectation among students and their parents that most students will continue their education in the school beyond 16 years of age

To provide a 16-19 curriculum which encourages students to reach their potential through vocational as well as traditional courses in a secure and familiar environment.
